It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Joan Grace (nėe McGuiness) who passed away peacefully on the evening of March 10, 2023 at Amica Retirement Home in Oakville surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt, who lived her life with unconditional love and a fierce dedication to her family. She will be lovingly remembered by her large family including her sisters Dorothy Darker and Vera Hutchinson; her children Douglas Grace (Erin) and John Grace (Noelle); her grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart Benjamin, Ava, Shaye, Sean and William Grace, and her many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband of over 50 years Edward Grace, her parents Cornelius and Kathleen McGuinness, and her siblings Rita, Dominic, Billy, Paddy, Tommy, Francie, Nuala and Deirdre.
Joan was born on January 23, 1934 in Dublin, Ireland. One of 11 children, her life in Ireland was full of fun with her family and many great adventures which she loved recounting despite them getting slightly more exaggerated with each telling. The one common theme to our mom's life was she loved causing a little bit of mischief. Her family was such an important part of her life and she would often be found talking on the phone for hours to her beloved sister Rita. Our most special Aunt Rita aptly said once when referring to Joan "we talk a lot - but agree on little".
Joan followed her future husband Eddie to Canada and emigrated at the young age of 19 with a number of her sisters and brothers. She stayed close with those back home and never missed an opportunity to pass down Irish traditions to her family in Canada all while nurturing and instilling the values she held dear.
Above all, she loved her family both immediate and distant. She had a heart of gold and a boundless capacity for love, always putting the needs of the family before her own. She had a special talent for making everyone feel loved and cared for, and her home was always a warm and welcoming place for family and friends. Her love for family knew no bounds, and she was a source of strength and guidance for everyone who knew her.
Her passing leaves a deep void in our lives, but we take comfort in knowing that she is now reunited in Heaven with her loved ones who have gone before her. Her memory will live on through the countless lives she touched with her kindness and love, and she will forever hold a special place in our hearts.
May she rest in peace, knowing that she was loved and cherished by all who knew her. We will miss her dearly, but her legacy of love and nurturing will continue to inspire and guide us always.
