It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joan Andella Janczikowski on November 19, 2016 at the age of 85. Daughter of the late Rudolph (Chappy) and Viola (Vie) Gurley. Joan passed away peacefully at Wyndham Manor Long Term Care Home in Oakville, with her loving daughter Linda, by her side. Beloved wife of the late Klaus Werner Janczikowski and devoted mother of their daughter Linda Mary. Predeceased by her faithful siblings Rudolph Adrian Gurley, Malcolm Ulric Gurley, Paul Ronald Gurley, Frank Desmond Gurley and Carol Ann Gurley. Cherished by her surviving sister Sheila Brenda Spooner, brother Trevor Anthony Gurley and sisters-in-law Diana Gurley, Faith Gurley and Lisa Gurley. Joan was born in Trinidad in 1931 and moved to Ontario, Canada in February 1964. She met her husband Klaus later that year and were married July 31, 1965. The following year they were joyously blessed with their daughter Linda. Tragically Joan's beloved husband Klaus died in an automobile accident in 1967. Joan raised Linda in Toronto for many happy years where they enjoyed weekend picnics, family gatherings and cottage holidays in northern Ontario with her sister Carol, brother Malcolm, sister-in-law Diana and their five children Debbie, Malcolm, Roslyn, Christine and Eleanor. Joan eventually settled in Oakville in 1998 where she was able to enjoy many happy times with her cousins Jean Pitcher and Ken, Peter and Mike Searl, and their families. Joan worked over the course of 28 years with CIBC and retired from the bank at the end of 1992. She remained very close with her friends and colleagues Sarah, Marie, Madeline and Bernice. They had many happy times together along with her dear cousin Jean, including some wonderful traveling holidays. Joan was unassuming, loving, kind, friendly, had a great sense of humour and loved to laugh. She loved to travel, do needlepoint, adored babies and thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas season with her family and friends. Joan will be greatly missed by her daughter Linda, siblings, cousins, friends, nieces, nephews and all her great nieces and nephews. Joan's family wish to extend our sincere thanks for all your condolences and support that we have received at this difficult time. We also send our gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Wyndham Manor in Oakville for the wonderful care and friendship during Joan's time there. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Joan's life at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home at 64 Lakeshore Rd W, Oakville on Saturday, December 3rd with visitation starting at 2:00 pm, followed promptly by a funeral service at 3:00 pm and refreshments afterward. An interment, for immediate family, will be held at Resthaven Memorial Gardens at 2700 Kingston Rd, Scarborough on Monday, December 5 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Diabetes Association or the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.
