Jennifer Judith
Taht
December 5, 1971 – April 4, 2026
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Jennifer Taht, (nee Hoyle). She passed away the morning of April 4th, 2026 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, at the age of 54.
Jennifer is survived by her husband Andrew and her son Timothy.
Jennifer was born on December 5th, 1971, in Oakville, Ontario, daughter to Janet and Tony Hoyle. At the age of four Jen's family moved to Campbell River, BC where she spent much of her childhood. She moved to Orillia with her mother to finish grade school and attend high school. During her time in Orillia Jen's mother suffered from Huntington's Disease, so Jen had to move in with her grandparents, Mary and Keith Ferguson. She studied music at Queen's University in Kingston, after which she started a career in HR Administration, living with her grandmother in Burlington. It was in while working at Russel Metals, where she met her husband Andrew. They began dating right away and were soon married and settled in Oakville.
Jen had many passions in her life. She loved mountain biking, and cross-country skiing. She was extremely talented musically, playing the flute and many other instruments. She loved going to the cottage and swimming. She loved to bake. She loved animals all through her life…especially her two cats, Kit and Kat, who would spend many hours a day cuddling with Jen.
Jen also loved travel. She and Andrew went on many adventures together; backpacking through Europe, cruising the Caribbean, spending a month visiting Hawaii with Tim, renewing their wedding vows together with their family in Alaska, and visiting Japan and Korea with Timothy.
One of Jen's biggest joys was watching Timothy grow up. She loved going to his hockey games, and was especially proud to see him perform in musicals as a child.
Later in life as her symptoms from Huntington's Disease began to impact her more and more, Jen never lost her joy. She was very happy for the friends she met in the HD Group meetings in Burlington, and found pleasure exploring the trails near her home with Andrew, or having late night desserts at nearby restaurants.
Recently her symptoms from Huntington's became too challenging to manage in her home, and Jen had to move into long-term care. Even then, she was excited for what that life was going be like, looking at the homes calendar, planning what events she was going to attend. And looking forward to walks with Andrew around the neighbourhood. Unfortunately, she was not able to enjoy that stage of her life.
While Jen's passing is definitely tragic and came unexpectedly, we should all remember the grace and joy with which Jen approached life, especially her later years.
The family would like to sincerely thank staff at OTMH, especially the nurses in both the ICU and Complex Transitional Care departments who were so kind and caring to Jen while she was at the hospital.
We would also like to thank everyone who was able to visit in the hospital, especially those of you who travelled to do so. All the prayers, well wishes and even laughter that were shared in her room will not be forgotten.
A celebration of life will be held at Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home on May 16th between 2-5PM.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Huntington Society of Canada and/or the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.
