IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jean Kissick
(Nee Bodnar)
July 12, 1929 – May 31, 2025
In the comfort of family, Jean Kissick passed away on May 31, 2025 at the age of 95. Jean was born on July 12, 1929 in Dana, Saskatchewan and spent much of her adolescence in St. Catharines, Ontario before building a life and raising a family in Oakville. She was predeceased by her older sister Mary and younger brother Ernie, and spouses George Theodore DeHay and Ronald Kissick.
Jean is survived and will be dearly missed by her children Shelley (Jim), Cindy (Nick), Kerry and Shawn (Helen), her grandchildren Taylor (Ian), Brett (Victoria), Jordan, Andrew (Racquel), Christopher, Mieke, Alec, Michael (Rhonda), and Lisa (Sean), her great-grandchildren Adelaide and Seia, Jack, Charlie, Eleanor, Matthew and her extended family including many nieces, nephews and close friends.
A life-long learner and educator, Jean attended the University of Toronto and was a celebrated elementary school art teacher who spent her entire career at schools throughout Oakville. She was often recognized in the community by former students who would share fond memories of their time in her classroom.
Her great love of the arts was reflected in every aspect of her life from her vast art collection to her own original paintings, floral arrangements, wreaths and crafts. In her retirement, Jean volunteered her time and talent to the craft group at Sir John Colborne Recreation Centre for Seniors and became well-known for her wreaths, table-top trees and ornaments sold at the annual holiday bazaar. She applied a creative lens to everything she did, and could turn the most basic materials into something beautiful. Her creativity and passion for the arts lives on through many of her children and grandchildren.
Jean was an avid traveler and appreciated keeping busy with sports like softball and curling, playing bridge, gardening, and actively participating in the Red Hat Society. She stayed up to date on current events and world issues, and always appreciated a spirited debate about anything from politics to local sports teams. She found great joy in regular visits from family and friends to catch up and try to solve the world's problems over coffee, pastries or a crossword.
Jean lived an incredibly full life and will be lovingly remembered as a strong, creative and generous mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, friend and member of her community.
A private celebration of life will be held at the family's request.
