Affectionately known
to those close to him as "Papu"
passed away on Monday, January 19, 2009 at 4:20 p.m. A man of incredible character, integrity and strength, he had the internal fortitude to wait until his family arrived to say goodbye. With everyone by his bedside, we remember his incredible journey through 94 years of his life. Born on March 10, 1914 in Varaklani, Latvia, Janis wed his bride Magdalena before leaving his
homeland to venture into the unknown and land in Canada. Along the way, he had his only daughter Gunta "Gerry" Walters and is survived by his son-in-law Norm, grandchildren Craig, Christine, Carol, his great-granddaughter
Caitlin and beloved friend
Helen Ashcroft. He touched so many
lives and those who had the fortune to have known him will surely miss his humour, affection and generosity. We are all better people for having known him and have a tremendous task to live up to his standards. Thank you
Papu for the memories. You will sorely be missed. Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville (one block east of Kerr,
905-844-2600) from 2-4 and 7-9 pm
Friday. Funeral Mass 10:00 am Saturday, January 24, 2009 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, 47 Reynolds Street, Oakville. Interment St. Judes Cemetery.
God bless!
