IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Thomas
White
July 12, 1940 – January 12, 2017
Passed peacefully away, with his beloved wife Wendy at his side, of neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer.
Born in the small village of Whitford in Devon, England, Jim apprenticed at Bristol Aircraft Company, graduating in mechanical engineering. At BAC he met his wife of almost 55 years, Wendy, then a wind tunnel technician and later a flight test analyst. For a year Jim worked at Wisley Airfield, revelling in "living life on the edge" as an onboard test flight engineer on pre-production BAC 111s. After a brief period working at Esso, he returned to British Aerospace in Bristol to work on the Concorde project. During this time his children, Tom and Beverley, were born. Commuting daily by air to Fairford, then weekly to Toulouse, he helped to train pilots on the Concorde flight simulator.
At the end of 1973, Jim emigrated with his family to St Bruno, near Montreal in Canada, to work as a performance engineer at United Aircraft in Longueuil. Here he was shortly joined by Wendy, by then a computer programmer. In 1979, the family moved to Oakville, Ontario, when the new Pratt & Whitney plant opened in Mississauga.
He loved travel and nature, and particularly valued the opportunity to experience a wide variety of cultures and places. For several years, he and Wendy ran a retail travel agency from home, during which time Jim enjoyed his involvement with PATA (the Pacific Asia Travel Association).
After living in the same neighbourhood in Bronte for 37 years, he and Wendy moved to Amica in August, 2016, where they made many new friends. He will be sadly missed by wife Wendy, daughter Beverley and her husband Alastair, and grandson Rowan.
His family are extremely grateful to the devoted staff and volunteers at the Ian Anderson House hospice in Oakville, where he spent his last week in beautiful natural surroundings.
A reception will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home (64 Lakeshore Road West, 1 block east of Kerr Street, Oakville; tel. 905-844-2600) on Friday January 20, from 2 - 4 p.m. Donations to Ian Anderson House http://www.ianandersonhouse.com/ in lieu of flowers would be welcomed by his family.
