With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of James (Jim) Allan Matthew on July 21, 2023, at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) peacefully and with family. Jim was a strong, tenacious and devoted family man that touched the lives of many.

Jim was born in Toronto, Ontario Canada and spent many summers with family and friends at Balsam Lake and later Jack's Lake.   He married the love of his life, Arlene May Phillips, in 1956 and had three wonderful children, Lisanne, Susan and Robert whom he treasured and was immensely proud of.  Arlene and Jim recently celebrated their 67th Wedding Anniversary together with family.   Lisanne and Bill, Susan and David & Robert and Chrissy were all blessed to have had vacations and time with Jim.  He leaves behind amazing grandchildren, Chelsey, Steven, Kristopher, Tavis and Jonathan.   He also leaves behind his dear sister, Catharine Ball and brother in-law John Ball and their children Jennifer and Bill as well as his sister in-law Beverly Wyatt and her husband Robert Wyatt.  Jim enjoyed many summers together with his family at the cottage playing cards as well as attending many hockey games and roller derby matches.

Jim worked in Finance as a Mortgage Broker in Toronto, London and Burlington for over forty years.  Following retirement, Jim spent his winters with Arlene and family in Laguna Beach California where he enjoyed many Laguna sunsets.  Jim loved traveling, spending time on the East coast with Lisanne and family, a memorable trip to Rome, Italy with Susan and many trips with Arlene to Hawaii and Europe.

The family thanks the OTMH and the staff at Amica in Oakville for their excellent care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society or the charity of your choice.

A private family service will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville
