IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Walter
Johnston
November 18, 1932 – October 20, 2024
James (Jimmy or Jim) was born and raised in the Town of Oakville. Growing up he was an avid sportsman – playing baseball and hockey, fishing and hunting, and later in life he became a golf enthusiast. Jim retired from the Oakville Fire Department as Platoon Chief in 1992 after 28 years of service.
Jim is predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Joan Francis Johnston (nee Collins). He met Joan while working at the BP Refinery where they both played on the bowling team. He was the loving father to Joanne (Michael), Heather (Paolo), Michael (Leslie) and Andy (predeceased) (Roberta,Yvonne), He is lovingly remembered by his 'big sister' Helen Perrin and predeceased by his brother Ken and sister Bernice. Cherished grandfather of Courtney, Graham, Sydney, Sarah, Parker, Carter, Oscar, Daniel, Charlotte, Lilly and Braden. He is fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews, many wonderful neighbours on Wilson Street and Riverside Drive, our St. Aidan's Church family, the Oakville Fire Department, a wonderful group of golfers, and lifelong friends that shared travel adventures.
Jim spent the last 15 years at The Kensington Retirement Home where he made new friends with the residents and the lovely staff – enjoying the daily activities, the entertainment of guest musicians and especially the outings.
