Obituary

On Sunday, December 20, 2015 Jacki, the beautiful, beloved wife of Charles and greatly loved mother of Chuck (Amanda), John and Julie passed away unexpectedly after being diagnosed on December 1st with endometrial cancer that had spread. Her husband and her children were at her side. Jacki was born in Toronto on November 7, 1943 to Rhoda (Robertson) Jardine and John Jardine and is one of two children. She predeceases her brother, Paul Robert Jardine of Toronto and leaves aunts, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law and their children. Jacki's whole life was about generous giving of herself and her talents to her family, her colleagues and the community. She received a honourary Big Brothers Award from Metro Toronto Big Brothers for outstanding involvement and contribution. She represented the Halton District School Board on many, many social service, community and government agencies and ministries. Jacki was an outstanding Teacher and Educator for 50 years. She earned her B.A., B.ED., M.ED. and completed the course work for her doctorate in education. She began her teaching career as a young woman of 21 in 1965 with the Hamilton School Board, moved to the Etobicoke School Board the following year to be closer to her future husband, and quickly became a Department Head there. After taking 6 years off to give birth and begin the raising of her three children, she joined the Halton District School Board where she was a Classroom Teacher, Department Head, Secondary School Vice-Principal, Board Community Liaison Officer and where she retired in 2013-2014 as a System Principal in charge of Equity and Inclusive Education after 33 years of service. Jacki had a career interest in Special Education and helping the students and their parents/guardians who require these services. In her "spare" time, she developed and became the lead instructor for Queen's University's Faculty of Education teaching online special education courses to teachers who wished to further their professional qualifications and become specialists in the area. She was also an online instructor for the University of Toronto/O.I.S.E. in the same area and occasionally for Brock University. She developed an online course in Behaviour Management approved by the Ontario College of Teachers and taught this course for Queen's as well. Jacki and Charles were married on July 1, 1967 Canada's 100th anniversary and that Summer turned out to be "The Summer of Love". They were married and together virtually every day and night for over 48 years and together for 3 years before being married. Every day spent together with Jacki was like an entire Summer of Love. Jacki had a beautiful smile, a wonderful laugh, an open personality and great compassion and empathy for people. She could get along with anyone. These traits allowed her to make friends instantly, even with perfect strangers and also helped her to accomplish all that she did in education and life as a leader. Jacki and Charles have three children who are the lights of their lives - Chuck (born February 5, 1977); John (born November 13, 1979); and Julie (born August 10, 1983). There have been no words invented to express how deeply her husband and children will miss Jacki nor how deeply we love her. While we are in the depths of extreme anxiety and loss now, we will take a measure of consolation from our great memories, photographs, films and videos of her and will carry her in our hearts and thoughts forever. We will love you forever honey. Your loving husband, Charles and your children Chuck (Amanda), John and Julie. A private family funeral service was held for Jacki in the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home in Oakville, Ontario on December 28, 2015 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in Jacki's memory would be greatly appreciated.
