Obituary

With deep sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Jacqui at our home in Oakville, ON surrounded by her family. The cause was complications arising from lung cancer.

She was born in Montreal to Jim Walls (a WW II veteran) and his English war bride Trixie Carrigan, the first of their three children. They subsequently moved to Hamilton, ON and then to Kingston, ON in the mid-1950s.

She is survived by David, her loving husband of 42 years, our only child James (Marie MacDonald) with our only grandchild (her "precious lambie") Zachary (11 months old) of Etobicoke, ON; her mother Trixie Walls and sister Lucinda (Jacques Ménard) of Kingston, ON. She is also survived by her brothers- and sisters-in-law Don and Ginny (Lewis) Clark of Halifax, NS, Tom and Pam (Farmer) Lewis of Lachine, QC, Don and Mary (Lewis) Kennedy of Dartmouth, NS, and Kate Walls of Milton, ON as well as the families of many nieces and nephews, including a grandniece and a grandnephew. She was predeceased by her adored father Jim Walls (2009) and only brother Jamie (Kate) Walls (2011).

Jacqui graduated from Queen's University (BA 1968) and taught for several years in Levack, ON and Kingston, ON. She then moved to Toronto where she met David at her work in 1973. She next worked in the Investment Department of Manulife on Bloor Street until the late 70s and became a stay-at-home Mum when James was born in 1982. She took up teaching ESL in the late 80s, continued when David was transferred to Vancouver in 1994, and for a few years after they were recruited back to Toronto in 2000.

Jacqui and David moved to their dream California ranch bungalow in Oakville in July 2007 and David retired the following month to enjoy their retirement.

Jacqui had exquisite tastes in the mixing and matching of textures, colours, and accents for clothing, furniture, gardening, and home decoration.
She was extremely intelligent, engaging, full of grit, tenacious, determined, and had a can-do attitude that really came into play when something very important needed to be done. She could always be relied on to give sage advice and guidance whenever asked.

Although a very private and independent person, she showered us with unconditional love. Jacqui's capacity for caring and giving extended well beyond her immediate family: she was always interested, concerned, and willing to help whenever and wherever she could. Her capacity for generosity was ingrained and limitless as were her selfless and dependable manners.

She loved to research any item and would spend hours on the Internet (or books) pouring over facts and figures. However, her happiest times were those spent with her extended family.

Cremation has taken place. At her request, there will be no funeral service but there will be a family and friends gathering later in the year.

Her family is very grateful to the care given by the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Princess Margaret and Oakville/Trafalgar hospitals over the past 8 years. In lieu of flowers, donations to either or both hospital Foundations (or a charity of your choice) in Jacqui's name would be appreciated. Particular thanks is given to the palliative care team members here in Oakville for their amazing coordination of so many services - all administered by such magnificently warm and caring people.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home of Oakville. Condolences may be sent to jalewis@cogeco.ca or www.koprivataylor.com.

We were blessed, graced, and enhanced by Jacqui's presence in our lives. She has left an immense void. Rest in peace, Jacqui; rest in peace.
