Ivi ( Ivy) Lüüs Patterson passed away on June 20, 2025, at the age of 89—on the summer solstice, one of the most meaningful days in the Estonian calendar. Born in Tartu, Estonia, she arrived in Canada via Germany in 1948 and built a life marked by warmth, curiosity, and intellect. She was predeceased by her mother Aili Lüüs, father Edgar Lüüs, and her brothers Dr. Rein Lüüs and Dr. George Lüüs.

Ivi graduated from Sault Ste. Marie Collegiate in 1955, earned her nursing degree from Toronto Western Hospital in 1958, and later completed postgraduate training in Child and Maternal Health at McGill. She served as Head of the Nursery Department at Toronto Western Hospital and returned to nursing later in life, cherishing the meaningful connections she made with her patients. She was also a long-standing and the oldest living member of Amicitia, the Toronto Estonian sorority.

Ivi will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 62 years, David, and by her children: Sylvia Patterson (Steve Thompson), Vivian Couch (Sandy Couch), and Steven Patterson. She was a devoted and generous grandmother to Aili, Evan, and Alexandra. She will be known for her beauty, creativity, inquisitiveness, and kindness, as well as her deep belief in higher learning. She loved humour, in-depth conversation, and the arts—musicals especially. A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, July 26. 2025 from 2:00 to 4:00pm at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville.  Her ashes have been interred at Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery.
