IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Italia
Soave
April 1, 1929 – January 27, 2024
Italia Soave (known to most as Lina) passed on January 27th, 2024, at the great age of 94 years.
She is survived by her sons Mark (Jenifer Moore) and Robert. Grandchildren Andrew, Holly, Lauren & Meghan. Step Grandchildren Nathan Loehle (Emma) and Brandon Loehle (Nikki). She is also survived by her brother Frank (Giuseppina), and sister Giuseppe (Falco), her sister-in-law Margherita, her sisters-in-law Maria in Italy and sister-in-law Sandrina in Windsor and their families. She loved them all dearly.
Lina was born in Sant'Elia, Fiumerapido, Frosinone, Italy on April 1st, 1929, as one of ten children. As a young lady of 21, she was sent to Belfast, Ireland before landing in Canada for a better opportunity and life. In October 1953, she married Gaetano (Guy) Soave in Windsor, before moving to Hamilton where Guy would work at the Ford Motor Company. In 1957, they purchased the only home she lived in for the rest of her life until she was cared for at Ian Anderson House.
Lina was an inspiration, and we will forever miss her strength and spirit. For over 40 years, Lina worked full-time while maintaining their home, using her silk finishing skills in almost every dry-cleaning establishment in Oakville. Prior to September 2023, she never stopped moving, walking miles every day, gardening, cooking, and caring. In the evening, she enjoyed sitting with her beloved dog, Angel, and chatting on the phone with family and friends.
Lina was a devoted and loving grandmother to Andrew, Holly, Lauren, and Meghan. After her daughter-in-law, Barbara passed in 2006 she helped raise and comfort them. Lina taught them values, the importance of family, tradition, and our roots. "Nonna" taught them how to cook and work with pride of achievement. She was proud of all of them and how they grew to complete their university degrees and have made successful careers.
Lina was a devoted Catholic, attending church all her life often with her friends on Saturday evenings. She was a friend to so many neighbours and remained close to others in the community who she had met over the 60 years that she lived in Oakville.
Mom, Nonna, Lina, we love you so much and will miss you terribly. We will try to not mourn for our loss, but celebrate your incredible life. We will sometimes shed a tear for the hole left in our hearts, but we will also laugh at all the "Nonna things" while thinking of you fondly and lovingly; as you did for all of us for so many years.
We wish to thank all the staff and all the volunteers at Ian Anderson House with all our hearts for the care, compassion and support they provided Lina in her final days.
