Obituary

99 years young, passed peacefully in her home in Oakville, September 27, 2022.

In true automotive style, Bonnie just ran out of gas!

Daughter of Georgette and Colonel Harold Bonnick, sister of Betty Niddrie and predeceased by brother John Bonnick of Toronto, Bonnie lived an incredibly charmed life. She leaves behind a large group of family and friends enamoured of her relentless zest for life.

Sons Darryl (Carly), Chris (Ellen) and Terry (Carol), and grandchildren, Jen (Christine), Laura (Chris), Sarah (Aden), Lisa (James), Shelley, and Jeff (Christina) have been enriched in every way with her guidance, support, and strong values. She also had the good fortune to enjoy time with seven great-grandchildren.  Bonnie's sense of humour was infectious. Predeceased by her husband Stuart by 22 years, their incredible bond and success was built on a foundation of old-fashioned hard work, integrity, and family support.

In 1959, the family moved from Toronto to Oakville. Stu and Bonnie became integrated into the growing Oakville community. Members of the Oakville Club, sports were very important to their growing family. In 1973, Stu and Bonnie took a risk and used all their savings to open a family business selling British Leyland cars. Her family are still in awe of their self-belief and entrepreneurial spirit.  Bonnie was so proud of the family business and its growth. Although she never worked directly for the company, she was probably its most enthusiastic sales advocate and supporter. In her career, Bonnie kept a close eye on her three boys as the long-time school secretary at Woodside Public School, and later at Pine Grove Public School.

Bonnie's benevolence for charity and her family were important to her. Investing in stocks for her grandchildren instead of birthday and Christmas presents, she supported their education and first home deposits. Bonnie patronized the Oakville arts and music scene, supported the Oakville Hospital, diabetes and cancer research, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. She would always raise her hand to volunteer for any cause.

Her last five years were enriched by the dedication and friendship of Marcia. Marcia enabled Bonnie to keep up  her busy social schedule of lunches, plays, and charity events. Through the good days and bad days, Marcia was her constant. The family cannot thank her enough. Marcia will be family forever!

Tennis until the age of 88, golfing until 94, Bonnie had a tenacity for lifelong friendships and for life itself!
