IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Iolanda Filomena
Spina
October 23, 1939 – December 7, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, sister, Aunt, Grandmother, Great Grandmother. She is survived by her husband Costanzo Spina, her 4 siblings, Salvatore Spina (late Linda), Roberto Spina, Filomeno Spina (Anna Maria), Gina Lucarelli (Mario). Mother to Carmela Policciardi ( Renato), Luciano Spina, Mario Spina (Elena). Grandmother to Salvatore (Simona), Vincenza (Lee), Robert, Julia, Daniel, Vanessa, Nicholas. Great Grandmother to Noah, Mia and Chiara.
Iolanda Filomena Spina was born October 23rd 1939 to Domenica Bernardo and Mario Spina. She was the Oldest of 5 Children, Wife of 63.5 years, Mother to 3, grandmother to 7, and great grandmother to 3.
We were lucky to have her as an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She built an amazing life. She was born in Colle D'Anchise, Italy. Immigrated to Canada by boat in 1959 and married her husband shortly after. She worked shift work at the cleaners and would come home to take care of the house, her kids, grandkids and eventually her great grandkids. She taught her kids and grandkids how to bake, cook and sew. As you can see she built the best life filled with family and friends.
Nonna was recently diagnosed with early onset dementia. The fear of knowing that she would eventually forget us was devastating.
To watch her not be able to do all the things she was amazing at, crushed us. Although, Her death was unexpected it's like she knew that the other option was not ok with her . To forget the people she loved and the life she worked so hard to create was not acceptable. As her death was unexpected and devastating for us it was right for her.
She was and will always be the pillar and matriarch of this family.
Nonna we love you forever and always until we meet again!
