Humberto Correia Botelho
June 28, 1937 – August 2, 2025
In his 88th year, surrounded by family, Humberto Correia Botelho passed peacefully at home in Oakville, Ontario.
Humberto is survived by his devoted wife Adriana and his daughters Eugenia (Joao), Shawna (David), and Andrea (Matthew); his grandchildren Lazaro, Paul, Tania, Marc, Jessica, Hugo, Francelina, Alexandra, Michaela, and Maximus; and his great-grandchildren Juliana, Chanel, and Filipe. He is predeceased by his parents Laurentina and Evaristo, his sister Albertina, and his brother Florimundo. And he is remembered by his sister Nascimente, brother Oliveiro, and nieces and nephews in Canada and Portugal.
Born in Sao Miguel, Humberto was faithful, sensitive, skillful, and generous. He devoted his life to Jesus, family, and work, labouring in Azorean fields aside his Tio Manuel as a child; fixing machines and keeping watch at Oakville Wood Specialties as an immigrant; rocking his infants all night as a new dad; and caring for grandchildren all day as his daughters worked. Although an ocean away, his love for his eldest daughter and her six children was never far. He sent countless letters, gifts, plane tickets, and – admittedly – pleas for them to join him in Canada. His saudades for them were constant and shaped his heart.
With his capable and creative hands, Humberto could seemingly fix, build, or grow anything. And he tried, crafting custom marble cutters to implement his daughter's demanding designs and backyard nurseries to cultivate free flowers and boxwoods for family and friends. Applying his skillfulness and generosity to home life, he later cleaned, cooked, and chauffeured to his household's exacting standards. Called the "über Uber" by his youngest, he filled frequent orders for his carrot cake, and made rides to school, work, and treatments available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Humberto's humble life rooted in faith and family will be deeply missed. His wife and daughters would like to thank his former and current family physicians Dr. Robert Annis and Dr. Grace Lun, and his caring palliative team, including Raji, Mariam, Jaswinder, and Jeanie. May Humberto rest in eternal peace with Nossa Senhora and Nosso Senhor. Até amanhã, Vovô.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to World Vision Canada, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, or any other preferred charity for the poor or sick.
