Life is nothing more than a fleeting moment so don't waste a second of it on something that doesn't make you happy and bring joy to those around you.
These are the words by which our beloved Hugh chose to live. Hugh passed away in Toronto on May 15th from a tragic accident. We are devastated but comforted by the memories of his many accomplishments, infectious personality and wit, love of music, sports, travel, exotic food and drink, and his instinctive curiosity and cheekiness. For the many of you fortunate enough to have met Hugh, you knew him to be a caring and compassionate old soul. Hugh was incredibly inclusive, owing to an uncanny ability to understand people, what made them tick, what they needed to feel better about themselves and filling the void. He fit in no matter what the occasion or where he happened to be.
Hugh was our shining light and a beacon of strength for many. For Hugh, the juice was in the journey and he had an unquenchable thirst. Only 26 years young, he packed in as many meaningful life experiences as someone twice his age.
Hugh, we love you profoundly and are so very proud of the way you carried yourself for the years we were lucky enough to share with you.
The family would like to thank those who have supported us in our time of grief. It is comforting to know that if all of Hugh's friends and family stood by and held hands, they would reach the stars and feel the strength of his spirit, and he theirs.
Hugh is survived by the love of his life, Jessica, his mum (Sheilagh), dad (Greg), big brother (Jake), Nanna (June), Jessica's parents (Tom and Rosanna) and the Boys. He is predeceased by his Nana, Poppa Bill, Grandad Jack and good pal Brandon.
We miss him so much but know that wherever his journey takes him he'll be lighting it up, getting people together, organizing the game, the music, mixing the cocktails and bringing joy to all those around him.
Billy Joel was quite right about the young… although Hugh much preferred Jim Croce or Harry Chapin.
The family will be holding a private service on May 25th, however there will be several celebrations of Hugh's life when circumstances permit (Oakville and his beloved Nova Scotia).
