Barton
February 15, 1947 – February 25, 2022
Surrounded by the love of his family, Howard S. Barton passed away peacefully on Friday February 25, 2022 after a long courageous battle with Glioblastoma.
Born in Troy, NY he was the son of the late Howard F. Barton and Corinne Bombard and the late Clarence Bombard. For the past 52 years, he was the beloved husband of Maria (Lavecchia) Barton. Devoted Father to Melanie Girolami (Chris) of Brunswick, NY, Jason Barton (Danielle) of Waterdown, and Cora Barton of Oakville. He is the proud grandfather of Joseph and Mia Girolami, Chase, Jaxon, and Lincoln Barton. The brother of Melody O'Brien (Harold) Watervilet NY, and Catherine Nealon (Scott) Johnsonville, NY. He was a doting Uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Howard worked on the assembly line at Ford Motor Company for many years and proudly retired in 2010. In 1964, Howard enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17. He proudly served in the Navy and was a 3rd class petty officer Parachute Rigger. Served at VAW-11 NAS North Island, San Diego and aboard USS Hornet CV-12. Decorated Medals are the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal. Howard often spoke fondly of the US Navy and how it provided him with memorable learning experiences and opportunities to see the world.
Howard was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed his time in the woods with the people he loved. Howard would express his love for the woods through his stories that often involved his "Bestest Buddy " Larry Bornt, brother in-law Tom Lavecchia and son in-law Chris. He loved the game of Pool and enjoyed spending time with his teammates. Howard cherished time with his loving wife, children and grandkids. You could always see Howard with a good book in his hand, or sipping Bourbon and enjoying a nice cigar. Family and friends valued his opinion and friendship. Known as a storyteller he could captivate his audience.
Howard had a unique way of bringing out the best in the people around him and if you were in a conversation with him it usually started with something meaningful and ended with a joke but either way you would remember it. Howard adored his wife Maria and fell in love with her the moment he saw her and often referred to her as "baby-doll ". In 1968 when Howard and Maria met they locked eyes and knew they were soulmates. Howard was proud of his son Jason and watched him start a successful business Barton & Sons and loved his daughter in-law Danielle as his own. Howard loved visiting his family back home in New York and he was proud of his daughter Melanie and all of her accomplishments. Howard shared a special bond with his daughter Cora, a bond that strengthened overtime and transcended. Cora was able to go from the role of daughter to caregiver when the time was needed.
Howard was a devoted son to his wonderful mother Betty. Howard treasured the times they spent together over the years and it was well known that she was his "Mommy " and he was her "baby boy "
Howard's faith in God strengthened over the years and brought him peace and comfort during his last days before entering paradise.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 28 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 1 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 181 Sewell Drive, Oakville. Interment St. Jude's Cemetery.
