Herman "Paddy" Weedle passed away on Tuesday August 30th, 2016. He is survived by Maxine, his loving wife of 64 years, by his children Michael (Nancy), Stephanie St Pierre (Roger) and Cindy and by his grandchildren Caitlin and Madeline Weedle, Patrick and Nicholas St Pierre and Jacqueline Prior. Paddy is pre-deceased by his brother Michael (Maire) of Clane, Ireland. Born in Mallow, County Cork, Ireland, Paddy came to Canada in 1949. He had a wonderful career as an Officer with the Canadian Army for 20 years. Paddy served with the Canadian Guards in Korea, with NATO in West Germany and with the United Nations as a Military Observer on the India – Pakistan border. On his retirement from the Military he joined the Workers Compensation Board, retiring in 1989. As a mature student, Paddy studied part-time and graduated in 1982 from McMaster University majoring in history and English literature. His interest in writing led to a number of published articles in military and historical magazines in Canada, Australia and Ireland. Paddy always had a zest for life. He was a lifetime athlete and had a love for the outdoors. He jogged, hiked, swam, played golf and rode horses into his senior years. He enjoyed travel and was always open to adventure and new experiences. Paddy will always be remembered for his warm smile, his kind and friendly manner and his positive attitude. We would like to thank the staff at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for their wonderful care. If desired, a contribution in memory of Paddy may be made to the Salvation Army or the Canadian Red Cross. Visitation will be held at Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville, on Tuesday September 6 from 2 to 4 pm and from 7 to 9 pm.
