Obituary

Peacefully at Northridge Long Term Care (Oakville) on October 24, 2011 at the age of 88 with his family by his side. Herb is survived by his wife Beryl (nee Byard). They married on January 31, 1945 and shared 66 years of devoted marriage filled with laughter and music. Herb was a veteran who served all six years of WWII. He enlisted with the Pictou Highlanders and was transferred to the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps. He served in D-Day and the Normandy Invasion and took great pride in his military service to his country. Herb is predeceased by his daughter Linda, his brother John and his sisters Ann and Lillian. Herb will be deeply missed by his brother Bill and sisters Evelyn and Adeline. Herb was the proud father of Bob (Teri), John (Julie), Carol (Paul), David (Debi), Todd (Wendy) and Tim (Hiroko). He loved spending time with his many grandchildren – Danielle, Justin, Dan, Trevor, Tiffany, Tristan, Jennifer, Dwayne, Jodi, Holly, Sommer, Chad, Belinda, Robbie, Nicole, Jason, Tak and Yuki – and his 14 great-grandchildren. He will be lovingly remembered by his cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, (one block east of Kerr, 905-844-2600), Oakville from 6-9 pm Thursday. Funeral service 11:00 am Friday October 28, 2011 at St. Simon's Anglican Church, 1450 Litchfield Road, Oakville. Cremation. The family would like to thank the Northridge staff for their compassionate care of Herb over the last two years. Memorial donations in memory of Herb can be made to St. Simon's Anglican Church.
