It is with profound sadness and love that we announce the loss of our mother, Helen “Kit” Kress, who passed away peacefully at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, with her family by her side, on Friday, October 2, 2026, following a brief illness.
Kit was a retired registered nurse at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, where she spent the majority of her life helping others. She led with quiet strength, always stood up for what was right, and, through her example, taught us to be brave. With a calm presence, she welcomed everyone in. She was kind, caring, and always ready with a listening ear and thoughtful advice.
Kit was an avid reader and loved nothing more than sharing books, ideas, and lively conversations with friends. She had a wonderful love of travel, exploring the mountains of Vancouver and Western Canada, travelling across the country, and venturing to Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, the Italian and French Rivieras, and many of the beautiful islands of the Caribbean. She also cherished time spent at the lake with family and friends, where many happy memories were made.
Kit was the beloved wife of Brian (predeceased), proud and loving mother of Heather Kress and Julie James (Chris), cherished grandmother of Meghan and Thomas, and most loyal companion to Jasper, her buddy, and Scruffy. She is lovingly remembered by her sister, Holly Newton (Jim), and brothers Evan McPherson and Dennis Maughan (predeceased). She was a special aunt, sister-in-law, cousin, and treasured friend to many.
We are deeply grateful to the wonderful surgeons, nurses, and staff at Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga and Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for the extraordinary care, kindness, and compassion they gave our mom.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday October 7, 2026 at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West Oakville (one block East of Kerr Street) from 5 pm - 8 pm. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday October 8, 2026 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, 47 Reynolds Street, Oakville at 10 am.
