Obituary

It is with great sadness that we had to say goodbye to Helen Mary Hooper (nee Rae), at the age of 71 years, a loving wife, a caring mother, mother-in-law, aunt, friend, and an adoring nana to her 10 grandchildren.

Helen was a brave and courageous woman. She lived her best life, despite challenges with her health.  She dedicated her life to her husband Ross, her children, grandchildren (and many canines) and celebrated them equally in so many ways.  From Erin Mills to Carlisle, from Lake Eugenia to Fort Myers, she sought to make memories and provide her family with all that she had.

Helen passed in the arms of her loving husband of 51 years, Ross Hooper and will be remembered by sister Sheila (Ron) Stewart, sister-in-law Donna, daughter Leanne (Alex), sons Chris (Paige) and Colin (Louise), grandchildren Riley, Braeden, Carter, Isabella, Zander, Mary, Brodie, Eden, Jordin, and Jax. Helen is predeceased by her parents Nan and Alex Rae, Margaret and Arthur Hooper, her brother Sandy Rae, and brother-in-law Peter Von Hauff.  Her loss is felt by her nieces, nephews, friends, and the many people she touched throughout her life.  Helen was a spirited and strong-willed woman, who served as the matriarch of the Hooper household, keeping the ship straight, guiding, supporting and loving her family through thick and thin. A retired teacher of over thirty years she taught many lessons. None more important than those of unconditional love and happiness no matter the challenges we all faced.   She will be there as we continue our journeys, always missed and forever loved.

Helen was an elementary teacher that began her career at the age of 19.  She began teaching, her first job at Queens Court Public School in Toronto, where she taught for years until taking off for maternity, and to nurture her children in their young age.  She eventually returned to teaching again when her children were grown, where she began supply teaching at McBride Public, followed by full time at Lakeview Park Public, and then finishing her career at Oakridge Public School in Mississauga.  She was a dedicated teacher that committed her time to education, providing everything she could for the kids, including putting clothes on their back.  She was passionate about providing the best teaching and guidance for the children she touched.

All are welcome to share in a 'Celebration of Life', which will be held to "celebrate the wonderful life that made a beautiful difference," on Sunday June 26, 2022 between 1:00pm – 5:00pm, at Lowville Bistro, 6179 Guelph Line, Burlington, ON.
