Heinz Wilhelm Longerich

Peacefully on Friday May 19, 2023, on his 86th Birthday Heinz was called home to his Creator.  Heinz, beloved husband of Margitta for over 62 years.  Loving father of Virginia (James Fletcher) and Gordon (Angela Burns).  Loved Opa of Connor (Ashley Blake), Shannon (Josh Loewen) Heather, Hayden and Graeson.  He will be lovingly remembered by his friends and family in Canada and Germany.

An avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast, Heinz was always ready to cast a line in the water, watch a hockey or baseball game or share a tall tale that usually resulted in groans of laughter.  Heinz thoroughly enjoyed coaching soccer and cheering on his grandchildren in all their endeavours.  He loved music, both playing it on his guitar, mandolin, or violin, singing at home or church – or listening to music in his car or around the house.

His love of music and people led him to volunteer as a worship leader and seniors ministry leader at several churches throughout his life.

A skilled tool and die maker by trade, he enjoyed working with his hands on all sorts of projects from raising a house up on stilts to excavate an entire basement by hand with Margitta – to rewiring his entire home to introduce solar and wind electricity.

His ability to tell the same joke repeatedly – while getting the required reaction from his doting grandchildren will always be remembered.  Above all, he loved the Lord, and he loved his family.

Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville (one block East of Kerr Street) on Tuesday May 23, 2023 from 12 noon to 1 pm.  A funeral service to celebrate his faith and life will be held in the funeral home chapel at 1 pm.

If desired, remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society in his memory would be appreciated.
