Hans passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 12, 2022 with his family by his side holding his hand to fill his last moments with love and light.  He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 51 years Eva, daughter Jennifer, son Ralf, grandchildren Ethan and Justin, daughter in law Maiko and son in law Bobby.  He was diagnosed with cancer in December 2020 and was recovering well after his first treatment.  But the cancer returned in July of this year and it was a steady decline ever since.

Hans was born on June 21, 1944 in Seckenhausen, a small village in the north of Germany.  Life in post war times was difficult and built on character and hard work.  After graduating high school, he joined Siemens in 1961 where he spent his entire 45 year career.  In 1963 he was assigned a short term project in Montreal but he liked it there so much he ended up staying for the next 9 years, getting married to the love of his life Eva and becoming a proud father of his son Ralf.  In 1974 he was transferred to Munich where the family lived for a wonderful 13 years and where his daughter Jennifer was born.  In 1989 he and his family returned to Toronto where he then later retired.  He was a great colleague and friend to many and he will be remembered as always upbeat, positive, constructive, and as one of the hardest working people.  His dedication to work and his colleagues was unparalleled.

In his personal life he loved to play tennis with his friends every Saturday morning, he was an avid Formula 1 fan, he and Eva loved to go on cruises and spending winters in their second home in Venice, Florida for over 10 years during retirement.  Everyone will remember Hans for his never ending smile, his gregarious laugh, his limitless kindness and positivity, and showing us all how to live life at the highest levels of integrity and principles. He loved his family, protected and provided for them until his last breath and he adored his grandkids who he assured us he will look after from above.  We will miss him dearly but we feel grateful and blessed to have had such an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend.

A  service will take place at Kopriva Funeral Home in Oakville on Thursday October 20 at 1pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society to help us take a step closer to finding a cure to this merciless disease.
