Obituary

SOLECKI, Halina (nee Skrycka) passed away peacefully on September 13th 2023 at age 88. Predeceased by her husband Edward (2013). Halina leaves behind two children, Ronald of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Richard, of Burlington. Mom #2 to Leanne. Beloved sister and friend to Krystyna Czernicki (Gary) of Guelph, Ontario.

Born in Poland, Halina was deported with her family in 1941 during World War II to a slave labour camp in Siberia. Released later the same year they travelled as displaced persons, settling in a Polish refugee camp in Uganda, under the auspices of the British forces. Halina and her mother were then evacuated in 1948 and lived in France before finally emigrating to Canada in 1949.

Halina spent her teenaged years living on her family's farm and attending school in Dunnville, later finding full time work in the offices of Stelco. It was here in Hamilton that she met and later married Edward in 1957. They made a life for themselves and their family in Oakville where Halina stayed home to be a devoted full time mom to her two boys. Her life revolved around her family, the Polish community and her devotion to her faith at St. Anthony's Polish Catholic Church. Her social, easygoing nature made it easy for her to make new friends throughout her life, all while keeping close her special, decades-old friendships. She will be profoundly missed.

Rich and Leanne extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Cameron and the dedicated staff at Tansley Woods Long Term Care Centre for the care and compassion they extended in Halina's final year.
