Obituary

Passed away at home on October 26, 2008. Born in Wiarton, Ontario, son of Reverend T.H. and Eleanor (Ellis) Inns and brother to Dr. Harry Inns of Brantford. Much loved husband of Mary Inns (nee Dobbie) for 58 years. Beloved father of six: Rebecca, Susie, Sandra, Bruce, Dee-Dee and David and beloved father-in-law of Mike Sanders, Frank Evans, Kieron Dowling, and Lisa Inns. Cherished grandfather of thirteen: Michelle, Christine, Gordon, Gregory, Valerie, Maridee, Marc, Shannon, Kierdra, Greer, Colin, Aisley and Tegan. We will all miss his unbelievable love, care and leadership. He held positions as Executive Vice President Planning at BCE and senior positions at Bell Canada including Executive Vice President of Bell Ontario and Executive Vice President of Marketing. He was Chairman of the Board of Bell Canada International and Bell Cellular and was a director of Bell-Northern Research Ltd., the Canadian Enterprise Development Corp Ltd., Northern Telecom Canada Ltd., and Newtel Enterprise Ltd. He was also a Director of Telecom Canada, Newfoundland Telephone, Tele-Direct (Canada) Inc., and Junior Achievement of Canada. He was elected a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada, a Fellow of Ryerson Polytechnic Institute and a Senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. He was awarded the Engineering medal by the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario. He served in the active army while attending Engineering at the University of Toronto. He was also Chairman of the Salvation Army Shield Appeal. He was active in swim clubs in Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto, active in Christ Church (Beaconsfield), St. Bride's Church (Clarkson), and St. John's Church (York Mills). He has been a member of the Engineering Club in Montreal, the Rideau Club, the Toronto Club, the Donalda Club, the Oakville Club and the Probus Club. He was a philatelist and model train collector and loved music. Most of all he was the very proud Director of "the 6 Inns children and 13 grandchildren"! Favourite times were with the family at "Innstead" on Georgian Bay. Thanks to the wonderful care of Dr. Lynne Benjamin and the C.C.A.C., especially Sharilee Cox-Arsenault and Lilya. A memorial service will be held at St. Jude's Anglican Church in Oakville at 2:00 pm on Thursday October 30, 2008 and afterwards a reception to celebrate his life will be held at the Oakville Club. The cremation is private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or Ian Anderson House, P.O. Box 61034, 511 Maple Grove Dr., Oakville L6J 7P5 are appreciated.
