In Loving Memory of Gil Soares
March 30, 1930 – June 17, 2025
Husband, Craftsman, Immigrant, and Man of Quiet Strength

It is with both sorrow and peace that we announce the passing of Gil Soares, who died on June 17, 2025, at the age of 95, at Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga, Ontario.

Born on March 30, 1930, in Portugal, Gil lived a long and steady life shaped by perseverance, faith, and quiet resilience. In 1974, he and his beloved wife Angelina Soares immigrated to Canada, where they continued to raise their family and build a life grounded in purpose and devotion. They were married for 68 years, until Angelina's passing on July 21, 2022. Gil was also predeceased by their son, Lucindo (Luke) Soares passing on October 19, 2023, a loss that deeply affected him in his later years.

Gil worked in construction, a profession that suited his disciplined nature and skilled hands. In his younger years, he had a quiet passion for woodworking, often crafting tables and benches by hand — practical pieces that reflected his appreciation for simplicity, durability, and utility. He was a man who preferred action over words, and whose character was most visible in what he built and in how he carried himself.

While Gil was a more private and reserved presence in family life, he was a constant — dependable, faithful, and steady. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he practiced his beliefs with humility and devotion.

He is survived by his children: Rita, Manuel, Anna, Joe, and Maria. He was a grandfather to Nelson, Danny, Kevin, Rick, Ryan, Amy, Julia, Alex, Joseph, Lindsay, Cassandra, Colin, Angela, Rachel, and David; and a great-grandfather to 16 great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward the legacy of strength and quiet determination he embodied.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 26, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Parish, 2451 Old Bronte Road, Oakville, Ontario. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m., after which burial will take place at Glen Oaks Cemetery.

Now reunited with his beloved Angelina and son Lucindo, may Gil Soares rest in eternal peace.
