IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gianfranco Felice
Reia
August 2, 1938 – August 9, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gianfranco 'Frank' Reia at the age of 86. Devoted husband of 61 years to Gianna (nee Gilardone) and loving father to his children Rick (Marianna), Larry (Ann), Sandra (Gianni) Mattina, Daniel (Jackie) and Jane (Alessandro) Berlingieri. Adoring Nonno to his precious grandchildren Natalie, Alessandro, Sienna, and our angel Francesco. Honorary Nonno to Riley and Hunter. Son of the late Emilio and Ida Reia (nee Derin), and treasured son-in-law of the late Mario and Maria Gilardone. Dear brother to Loredana (and the late Lino) Semenzin, the late Arrigo, Oriella (Sandy) Stillo, Fabio and Elsa. Zio to his cherished nieces and nephews.
Frank was born in the small town of Carcase in Istria Italy. The eldest of six children, he quickly developed qualities of a leader and protector. After immigrating to Canada with his family, he lived in Pierreville Quebec and worked building fire engines. His family then relocated to Toronto where in his earlier years, he played semi-professional soccer, refereed men's soccer, and after settling in Oakville with his wife and children, coached the Oakville Trafalgar U12 Atom boys soccer team to win the Canadian National Championship in 1974. Frank received recognition for his achievement in amateur sports by the Premier of Ontario and was also an inductee to the Oakville Sports Hall of Fame. He was very proud of his Istrian heritage and was a member of both the Famee Furlane Club as well as the Club Giuliano Dalmato di Toronto where he also once served as President.
Frank lived a full life. He was an honourable, hard working entrepreneur, who was always well dressed and impeccably groomed. He enjoyed the fruits of his labour by pursuing his true passions. He enjoyed playing golf all over North America and Europe and was a long-time member of the Hamilton Golf & Country Club, where he also served on the board of directors. He collected a variety of antiques, memorabilia and even a few sports cars. He was a lover of "coffee with his sugar" and hard candies; which he always had in his pocket to share.
Frank was a one of a kind, who believed in doing the right thing and always being punctual. He would readily stop in the street to help someone in need, or to rescue an injured or stray animal. He was loyal and generous to many and will be sorely missed by friends and relatives here at home, as well as in Italy and Slovenia.
Many thanks to Dr. Joseph Kosak, his wife Cindy, and receptionist Betty for their amazing care, and also to the CCAC, and Bayshore PSW's for their wonderful around the clock support. As per Frank's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
A special last request from Frank. "Please thank all my relatives and friends on my behalf; for having been so good and kind to me - always!"
