Giacomina Caputi

January 15th, 1931- November 5th, 2025

Surrounded by her loving family, Giacomina passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 5th, 2025, at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital in her 94th year.

Born in Toritto, Bari in 1931, Giacomina was the beloved wife of Raffaele who predeceased her in 1982.

Raffaele and Giacomina Caputi left their beloved hometown of Toritto, Bari, Italy in 1954 and 1955, drawn by the promise of opportunity in a new land. With determination and resilience, they worked tirelessly to build a better life and pursue a shared dream: owning their own business.

In 1965, that dream became reality when they opened Caputi Supermarket on Kerr Street in Oakville. Together, they ran the store with dedication and pride.

Giacomina was the heart of the business, serving as cashier, buyer, and stock keeper while also raising four daughters. She was known for her incredible cooking, welcoming countless friends and family to her table, and for her talent in sewing beautiful outfits for her daughters. She was truly a woman of many gifts.

To her great-grandchildren, she was lovingly known as "the Other Nonna", always ready with a warm smile and a feast of delicious Italian food. Her legacy of love, strength, and generosity will live in the hearts of all who knew her.

Giacomina will lovingly be remembered by her daughters, Angela, Maria, Frances (Ron), and Tina (Joe).  She will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Joe (Angela), Dominic (Adrienne), Raffaele, Christina, Jacquline, Lorance and her great grandchildren Nicholas, Talia, Loenne, Evan, Anthony and Bianca.

Visitation will be held at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville (one block East of Kerr Street) on Sunday November 9th from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 6:00–8:00 pm.  A Funeral Mass will take place on Monday November 10th, 2025, at 10:00 am at St. James Parish, 231 Morden Road, Oakville, followed by burial at St. Jude's Cemetery at 258 Lakeshore Rd W, Oakville.
