Peacefully, on Friday, December 17, 2021, Gerry Winkels passed at the age of 85, surrounded by his loved ones.

Gerry grew up in Holland and came to Canada to work in the mines. After about a year, and many love letters exchanged, he returned home to marry his soulmate, Thea, and then both migrated to Canada. Gerry left the mines and took up various jobs before fulfilling his career as Department Manager at Goodyear Canada where he worked for just under 30 years. During this time Gerry and Thea raised three children and provided a nurturing, loving home. Gerry was an amazing father and husband. He loved soccer and all sports, nature, hunting trips with his buddies, travelling, spending time with his family, singing in the choir, going to church, telling engaging stories and entertaining others, which he did plenty of.

Gerry was a man of morals and deep-rooted values. He was a kind, loving father and Opa, a devoted husband who loved his wife more than anything and showed her often, in many ways.

Gerry will be deeply missed by his wife Thea, his kids, Suzanne (Frank), Brenda, John (Courtney), and his grandchildren Taylor, Cassia and Samantha.

Due to COVID restrictions, a private visitation and funeral service will be held on Thursday December 23, 2021.
