Podolsky: George
George Podolsky, born May 12, 1932 in the village of Honeymoon, Saskatchewan, and died May 22, 2010 in Oakville. Survived by his wife Jean, daughter Sarah, brother Terry, (Agnes) and sister Luba and predeceased by his sister the late Vera (Giorgio Pederzoli). Beloved uncle of many nieces and nephews including Eva (Taylor), Bill, Michael and Mark Podolsky and Tara (Pencak), grandnieces and grandnephews. George graduated from Queen's University as a geophysical engineer in 1954, and spent much of his working life with Texas Gulf Sulphur in Toronto, Cuba and Denver Colorado. He played an instrumental role in the discovery of the Kidd Creek Mines in Timmins, Ontario. In 1958 George was responsible for keeping himself and three other men alive for four days when their plane crashed in the "frozen desert" of Nunavut (then Baffin Island) on what is now known as Mount Podolsky. There will be a celebration of George's life at St. Jude's Anglican Church, 160 William Street, Oakville at 1:00 pm Saturday, May 29, 2010. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital or The Salvation Army.
