It is with profound sadness that the family of George Arthur Anderson announces his passing on May 4, 2026 at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. He was surrounded by his loving family.
George was born in Forres, Scotland to Christina and Arthur Anderson. George came to Canada in January, 1952. As the second oldest of seven children, George was deeply devoted to his family and took much pride in his large clan of siblings. George is predeceased by John, Sheila, Derek, and Brodie. He is survived by his loving brothers Albert and Roy.
George met his “beloved”, Barbara on August 6, 1966 in Manhattan. They married on January 13, 1968 and celebrated a wonderful marriage spanning 58 years. Together they built a life full of strong faith, love and a genuine respect for one another. George was a proud father to Craig and Tracey (Scott). And nothing brought him more joy than his two grandchildren, Thomas and John whom he absolutely adored.
George started his 39 year career at CIBC in Vancouver, B.C. as a teller and worked his way to Vice President. He and his family moved many times throughout his career: New York, Toronto, Barbados, Bahamas, Cayman Islands, California, Barbados (again), Connecticut and finally Oakville. His last 40 years were spent in Oakville where he met many friends, played lots of golf, doted on his grandchildren and spent cherished moments with family and friends. George and Barbara were fortunate to travel to many places in their life together which brought them immense joy.
George was many things: a devoted husband, father, brother and loyal friend. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, determination, gentle and kind demeanor as well as his amazing sense of humour. George made friends easily and always had a story to tell and a genuine interest in making other people feel special. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Andrew’s Church, 47 Reynolds Street, Oakville on Friday, May 22 at 11:00am with a reception to follow in the parish centre. All are welcome to attend the mass and reception. Due to many of his family members being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, George’s charity of choice would be the Alzheimer's Society of Canada, if you wish to donate.
