Geoff Holden
October 7, 1932 – January 27, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Geoffrey Douglas Holden in his 90 th year. Geoff is survived by his loving wife Doris of 64 years and his daughter Sue Turchet (Tom) and his son Mike Holden (Jen). He will be incredibly missed by his grandchildren Andrew (Amanda), Alyssa (Scott), David (Tess), Bryan (Irena) and Leah as well as his nieces Val (Chris) and Sarah and nephew Richard (Alison) in England. They are left with many wonderful memories of a kind, loving man always smiling and never short of a joke. He was predeceased by his sister, Muriel Young in England in 2016.
Geoff was born in Crosby, England and in his early years he attended Merchant Taylors' School. He was a pilot with the Royal Air Force followed by a successful career in Marine Insurance which took him to Denmark for three years and eventually to Canada in 1970.
Geoff was very active in sports. He was a longtime member of Wallace Park Tennis Club and The Oakville Club. Other passions were golf, rugby, squash and skiing. He loved cottage life on Oxtongue Lake with his family and all it represented as well as numerous hiking and canoeing adventures in Algonquin Park.
A very special thanks and love to all the staff at Post Inn Village in Oakville where Geoff lived for the last three years. All of the wonderful folks there embraced Geoff beyond expectation and welcomed Doris like family. They are an incredible and dedicated group of people. We would also like to thank the wonderful, caring staff at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital during the two weeks he was there.
Cremation has already taken place. In memory of Geoff, donations to the Willow Foundation (Post Inn Village) at willowforseniors.ca or Alzheimer's Society would be greatly appreciated.
