Feike Liebrecht Francois Velsen

May 24, 1932 - August 24, 2021

Passed away peacefully with his family present, on August 24, 2021 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (Oakville, Ontario, Canada) in his 89th year. Born in Saparua, Indonesia. Survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Nantje (nee Walinga).  Beloved father of Paulette (Daniel), Albert and Coralena.  Beloved Opa of Alexander and Marc. Survived by cousins Eveline Branbergen (nee Velsen), the Tutuarimas (Anneke, Tilly, Elizabeth), sister-in-law Jenke Walinga and their families and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews in Canada, the Netherlands and Indonesia.  He is predeceased by his parents Feike Velsen and Helena Velsen (nee Pattiasina) , Tante Annie and Oom Jo, Oom Piet and Tante Mieke, cousins Feike and Peter Velsen, sisters (in-law) and brothers (in-law) Lipkje, Jan (Sjoerdtje), Johannes (Joukje), Dirk (Wieke), Pieter, Hiltje (Wieger), Corneliske (Rits), Hieltje, Afke (Coos).

Survivor of the Tantoei concentration camp, Ambon, Indonesia, World War II.

He lived several cherished years immediately after the war with his Tante Annie and Oom Jo (Aerdenhout).

Immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands in 1958 on the ship, "The Waterman" where he met Nantje his future wife.

Feike loved spending summers camping with his family in their tent trailer throughout Canada or being with family in the Netherlands.

Former Secretary and member of Contact Mariniers Canada and author of the Articles of Conduct for the Royal Dutch Marine Corps Veterans in Canada. Former Secretary for the August 15, 1945 Foundation.

Former teacher at John A. Lockhart school in Burlington, and other schools.

Visitation on Wednesday September 8th at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville from 9:30-10:45 am. Funeral service to be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 89 Dunn St, Oakville on Wednesday September 8th at 11am followed by burial at Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery, 1149 Dundas Street West, Oakville.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy donations can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion.
