F. Barry Howie passed away peacefully on December 24th, at age 85, having spent final hours with his 4 children. He will be profoundly missed by his devoted wife of 62 years, Mary Jane Howie (nee Williams), children Barbara Johns (nee Howie), Kathleen Howie (Warren Nicholson), Glen Howie (Tanya) and David Howie (Hilary Cunningham), 9 grandchildren, Sarah (Greg Garbutt), David, Matthew, Robert, William, Benjamin, Abigail, Paige and Owen, and his great grandson Tristan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many close friends. Barry is predeceased by brothers Ken and Ralph, and grandson Christopher.
Known for his quick wit, sense of humour and generous nature, Barry was a proud member of the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar and Maple Grove United Church. Founder of Tier Three Brokerage, he was a leader in the dental industry in Ontario for more than 5 decades. He strongly believed in Service Above Self and participated in polio immunization campaigns in Africa and India, and outreach projects in South America and Europe. He and his beloved wife loved to travel, and enjoy simple pleasures at home.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Maple Grove United Church, Oakville, Ontario on Thursday, January 11th at 1:30 pm, with a reception to follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Rotary Foundation of Canada or the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
