Peacefully, at Oakville, Ontario on October 24, 2009, at age 93. Proud and loving wife of 28 years of Dr. Paul who predeceased her in 1985. Born in Galt, she had been a resident of Guelph, Hamilton and Georgetown (founded by her great-great-grandfather George Kennedy) before making Oakville her permanent home. An astute businesswoman, lover of animals and of the Arts, avid gardener, golfer and bridge player, Evelyn was the first female Manager of Canada Manpower in Canada. She was a long-time member of the IODE, a Treasurer of the British Heritage Institute, Co-founder and Chairman of Oakville's Christmas Bureau, instrumental in establishing the YW-YMCA in Oakville, President and long-time member of the Oakville Opera Guild and a benefactor of The Canadian Opera Company. As mentor and confidante to many of her staff members and other Oakville residents, she encouraged them to pursue studies and self-improvement programmes that helped change their lives. Evelyn leaves a legacy of fond memories, kindnesses and generosity. Evelyn is survived by family members Peter and Carolyn Martin, Patricia and James Hawes and Audrey Hartwell. At Evelyn's request, there will be no funeral. Following cremation, interment will take place in the spring in Galt (Cambridge).
