IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Emily Jacqueline
Burns (Nee Holovy)
June 16, 2025
Emily Jacqueline Burns (nee Holovy) was a feisty and fun-loving woman who truly loved her family. Emily was born in Sudbury in 1937 to parents of Ukrainian and Czechoslovakian descent. At the young age of 17, Emily set out for Toronto to begin her career in banking.
She married in the early 1960's and settled in the Bronte area in the early 1970's. Emily was the proud mother of two daughters, Christine Dunn (Andrew) and Nancy Arnold (Christopher). She raised her girls in the Bronte Harbour area of Oakville while continuing her 25-year banking career at the Toronto Dominion Bank (Hopedale Mall).
Emily was blessed with 4 grandsons. Charlie & Liam Dunn and Timothy & Dylan Arnold. As a grandma, Emily learned quickly how busy boys are versus raising her sweet girls. It was always an adventure with her grandsons who all mastered the game of 31 according to the rules of Hoyle.
After retiring from the bank in the 1980's, Emily moved to Burlington to start her next chapter as a member of the Burlington Senior Centre where she volunteered until the age of 80. She also enjoyed water aerobics at Tansley Woods in Burlington and was a competitive Bridge and Scrabble player.
Emily eventually moved into Vistamere Retirement Residence in Oakville where she resided for the last 3 years and continued to share her expertise in Bridge and Scrabble.
Our mom was always a fighter that continued to recover from her on-going health issues. She knew the importance of moving forward and staying positive. Unfortunately, it was her time, and on June 16th, 2025, she passed away peacefully at the age of 88 with her loving daughters by her side.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Vistamere as well as the palliative care staff at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for all their support and compassionate care they gave to our mom.
Our mother's wish is for a memorial tree in Bronte. So please look for her living tribute (soon to come) while you stroll Bronte Harbour.
There will be a private service for the immediate family and a Celebration Of Life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
