In Loving Memory of Elizabeth Jessie Gillham

June 7, 1932 – March 14, 2024

Our beloved mom, grandmother and great-grandmother, Liz peacefully passed away at Eatonville nursing home on March 14, 2024, at the age of 91.

Born in West Branch River John, Nova Scotia, on June 7, 1932, Liz lived a life filled with love, laughter, and remarkable achievements.

Liz is now reunited in Heaven for eternity with her beloved husband Douglas (Doug) Gillham who recently passed away on January 3, 2024. She was predeceased by her parents Redvers and Helen Ross, her sister Mary McEwan, and her daughter-in-law Lori Ann Gillham (nee Ho Wong).

Liz leaves behind cherished memories with her sister Anne Murrill, her son Mark (Liz Zochowski), her daughter Susan (Don Mitchell), her son Grant (Marcelle Chahine), and her son Jeff (Nancy Fraser). She will be fondly remembered by her eleven grandchildren: Lindsay, Matthew, Michelle, Ashley, Kyle, Nathan, Katie, Griffin, Andrew, Alice, and Max, as well as her seven great-grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

Liz earned a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Carleton University, and while raising four young children she completed a Bachelor of Education with her lifelong friend Nancy Fennell.

Liz married Doug in 1955, and together they shared 68 years of marriage, residing at their Lakeshore Road home in Oakville for 58 years.

Liz dedicated much of her career to teaching within the Halton District School Board. She also managed the accounting records for the Oakville Ice Centre. Her favorite part of the day was reading the business section of the Globe and Mail newspaper which supported her in managing the household's finances and their investment portfolio.

A lover of pets, Liz enjoyed the companionship of dogs and Siamese cats throughout her life, finding joy in their company even during her later years with her "grand dogs."

An avid traveler, Liz explored the world, creating lasting memories, especially during her time touring with her granddaughter Michelle as part of the US Jr. National Association Tennis Team. The family cottage at Kahshe Lake and their ski home in Ellicottville, NY, were cherished destinations where she spent precious moments with family and friends.

In the face of adversity, Liz showed resilience with her unforgettable smile during her battle with dementia for nearly two decades, supported by her devoted husband and Patty's Place - Acclaim Health Dementia Care Centre. A special thanks to her family doctor Anna Sheridan-Jonah; PSWs Halina and Jocelyn for their compassionate care.

The family extends their gratitude to the staff at Eatonville Nursing Home for their care and attention.

A private family service and interment will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Patty's Place - Acclaim Health Dementia Care Centre or St. Paul's United Church Memorial Fund, honoring Liz's legacy of love, kindness, and resilience.

A Smile Shining for "Ever".
