Obituary

Elizabeth (Liz) Anne Simpson, 79, of Oakville Ontario, beloved daughter, wife, mother, and sister passed away peacefully on July 27, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Liz was born on February 12, 1945, in Peterborough, to the late (Mary) Evelyn (Coones) and Gord Whiteside. Liz inherited their love for swimming and cottage life, enjoying many summers at Mississauga and Sandy Lake. She was a certified lifeguard and swimming instructor through the Canadian Red Cross, and often helped out at Whiteside's Red & White Groceteria, alongside her parents and brother Jim.

After graduating from Peterborough Collegiate and Vocational Institute (PCVI), and the Peterborough School of Business, Liz pursued a career in administration and finance. Her dedication, expertise, and hard work earned her the respect and admiration of colleagues and clients alike. Throughout her career, Liz held various positions at Outboard Marine, Kawneer, Old Firehouse Sports, and Molly Maid. Liz retired in 1995 from Hagglunds Denison after many years of success as Office Manager.

Liz was known for her generosity, sense of humour, fun-loving spirit, and unwavering love for her family. She was an avid gardener, an incredible hostess – with a reputation for her amazing dinner parties – and a world traveller, with many exciting trips and adventures experienced throughout her life and in retirement.

Liz was the devoted wife of Peter Simpson, with whom she shared 58 wonderful years of marriage. Their enduring love and partnership were an inspiration to all who knew them.

She was the loving mother of two daughters, Janette (Darren) McGrath and Michelle (Cory) Baker, and took immense pride in her daughters' accomplishments; she was a constant source of support and guidance throughout their lives.

In addition to her husband and daughters, Liz is survived by her grandchildren Liam and Caitlin McGrath. She is also survived by her brothers Gord (Sharon) and Jim Whiteside and her sister, Jane Collins. Liz is pre-deceased by her sister-in-law Barb Fawcett and her brother-in-law Leon Collins. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.

A private celebration of life will be held on August 11, 2024, in Lakehurst Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Society, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, or Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.

Liz will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. We wish her bon voyage on her next adventure!
