IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth "Bette"
Anne Marshall
September 18, 1929 – November 20, 2025
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Elizabeth "Bette" Anne Marshall, beloved daughter of Richard Ewart Gladstone Wilkinson and Sylvia (Findlay) Wilkinson, and devoted wife of the late George Arthur Marshall (Dec 4, 1927 – Jan 2, 2018).
Bette found joy not in grand spectacles, but in the simple, quiet gestures of everyday life. She openly expressed her gratitude for even the smallest blessings and cherished her long, comfortable life. Up until her final days, Bette maintained her appreciation for family and friends, treasuring precious memories that included sharing sushi and passing on her love of cooking to her children and grandchildren.
She enjoyed countless hours of quiet companionship with her husband George, endlessly playing Gin Rummy and developing a passion for baseball while watching the Blue Jays. This past year, she took great delight in watching the playoff series and often reminisced about George during the games. Bette fondly remembered hosting Grey Cup parties and attending performances at the Royal Alexander Theatre with friends in Toronto.
Throughout her life, Bette dedicated herself to various careers while raising her family, including work as a nursery schoolteacher, a switchboard operator for CFRB, and a receptionist for Scotia McLeod. She also volunteered for the IODE (Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire), supporting education and addressing food and shelter insecurity affecting families, women, and children.
Bette is survived by her three sons:
Peter George Marshall and his children: Matthew, Emily and husband Mark (Bridget, Bodhi), Graham, Hannah and husband Mac (Frankie), Jake and wife Koryn, David, and Kevin.
John David Marshall and his children: Sarah Marshall and partner Terry (Scarlett, Marshall), Jessica Marshall and husband Matt (Caleb).
Richard Arthur Marshall and wife Sarah Burrow and their children: Ryan, Owen, and Nolan.
Bette cherished her two sisters, Helen (Bruce Mairs) and Mary (Peter Angus), and was forever grateful for the wonderful trips and adventures they shared, as well as the lifelong memories with their children, who continued to fill her life with love throughout her 96 years.
Bette was blessed with a bountiful family that included grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as an incredible extended family of nieces, nephews, and their spouses, as well as all their children. She cherished every opportunity to create memories and enjoy photos of her loved ones.
Though she will be deeply missed, we are eternally grateful for the love and wisdom she imparted to us all. Bette would be particularly joyful to know that her passing has brought family and friends together to celebrate her life and reflect on the true value of gratitude. Her memory will live on in our hearts and stories for generations to come.
