Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elena Scarangella (née Barbieri) on November 6, 2023. Elena was born on June 27th,1935 in Cerreto, Sannita, Provincia of Benevento, Italy. Elena was a devoted wife, mother and Nonna.

Elena was the cherished wife of Dominic Scarangella, her devoted partner for 66 years. She was a beacon of love for her children, Sandy, Paul, Mike, and Isa. Her warmth as a Nonna was felt deeply by her granddaughter Melissa (Patrick). She joins in peace her late son Alexander (Sandy), her parents Elisa and Maichino Barbieri, and her siblings Maria, Assunta, Antonio, Franca and Chris. She is survived by her brother Nick (Mary), along with many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Elena was a steadfast presence, her life characterized by an enduring devotion to her family, a passion for cooking, singing and infectious laughter. Her strength was matched only by her sweetness, and her love of family was the essence of her being.

Those wishing to honour her memory are invited to the Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home, located at 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville, for visitation on Thursday, November 9th, from 5 to 8 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Matthew Roman Catholic Parish, 1150 Monks Passage, Oakville, on Friday, November 10th at noon, followed by a reception.  As per the Family's wishes, cremation will take place after the Funeral Mass.

In remembrance of Elena, and in recognition of her compassion for others, donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation .

Elena's grace and kindness will be profoundly missed, yet forever remembered.  A special thanks to the caring staff at Billings Court Manor and Joseph Brant Hospital.
