In the early morning hours of January 13, 2011 our beloved Edward slipped away at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital with his wife and sons at his side. Ed is survived by his wife of 47 years, Bette, his sons David, Sean and Craig and his wife Laura, his treasured granddaughter Melissa, sister-in-law Beverley Miller, nephews, niece and cousin and their families. Ed was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Stella Martin, infant daughter Andrea, Mother-in-law Dorothy Evans, sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Harold Wookey, and brother-in-law William Miller. Ed was born and grew up in Toronto in the High Park area. He graduated from the University of Western Ontario's Ivey School of Business. His career was spent in the advertising industry and with his entrepreneurial spirit was a founding partner of the advertising agency Straiton, Pearson, Martin and Holman. The most important part of his life was his soulmate Bette and his sons. He spent many happy (and sometimes challenging!) hours coaching some of the boys' sports teams or cheering on from the sidelines. He loved planning holiday trips and travelling with his family, cottaging in Muskoka, playing a mean game of euchre or poker, and chasing the ever-elusive "perfect" round of golf. He so enjoyed all the fun he had with his friends and colleagues and the friends of his sons for whom over the years he became mentor and friend. Best of all, he had a wonderful, wicked sense of humour which everyone enjoyed, with his best audience always being his loving wife. He will be deeply and sorely missed. Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West (one block east of Kerr, 905-844-2600), Oakville on Monday from 6-9 p.m. Funeral Service 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at St. Jude's Anglican Church, 160 William Street, Oakville. Cremation. In lieu of flowers, any remembrance can be made through donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Covenant House Toronto, The Salvation Army Oakville or a charity of your choice.
