Obituary

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edith Margaret Hannah (nee Rasmussen) on Monday, December 30th, 2024, in her 93rd year. Edith was predeceased by her dear husband, John Hannah, her son, Johnny, daughter, Carol McHaffie and her two sisters Edel Brasher and Nancy Anderson. She was adored by her sons Doug and Gary (Brenda), her grandchildren, Venessa Badour (Todd), Mathew Hannah (Taylor) Alyse Dodge (Torr) and Brittany Hannah (Jen) and her great grandchildren Hannah, Elizabeth, Lakelyn, Audrey and Brixton.

When you think of Edith, you immediately think of the twinkle that she had in her eyes when she smiled, and she smiled a lot! She was such a happy person who made you feel better just by being around her, which is why everyone gravitated to her at family get-togethers. She took the time to really get to know each person that she met and was happy to chat with whoever sat beside her! Edith was a giver. She gave the warmest hugs, and she was so generous and kind. She did not ask for much from the people around her but preferred to be as independent as possible.

Edith graduated from Hamilton Business School and began her working career at the Davis Agency (magazine company) in Oakville. After mastering domestic life as a loving wife, mother and overall homesteader, Edith later worked as an elementary school secretary with the Halton District School Board. We know that Edith's kindness would have made her such a special member of her school communities and that both staff and students alike would remember her fondly.

Edith was happiest when she was with her family; chatting, laughing and just watching her family enjoy themselves. She loved to be at the cottage on Little Whitefish Lake where all of her family would often gather together. Edith enjoyed swimming the lake and in later years, was content sitting on her deck, facing the water and enjoying conversations with everyone around her, all the while knitting up something special. She was always working on a project, many family members and friends have been given home-made sweaters, blankets, hats and mittens hand made by Edith. She even knitted many items that were donated to the local hospital and shelter.

Edith also loved to travel and went on many trips with her late sisters Edel and Nancy. She truly enjoyed traveling and gave this great piece of advice "if you could do anything in life, travel and see as much as you can".

In her later years, Edith joined the seniors centre of Oakville, where she made many wonderful friends as well as at Churchill Place where she lived her last few years. Throughout her whole life from the start in Carluke, growing up in Larder Lake, growing a family in Hornby, to her later years in Oakville, she made so many wonderful friendships that she truly cherished. So many lives have been touched by her and will never be quite the same but are better thanks to her.

Edith will be dearly missed but we hope that she is home now with John, Johnny, Carol. She lived life well, always with a smile, surrounded by family, laughter and wonderful friendships. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Venvi Churchill Place for treating her with such care and respect and helping her live happily and independently.
