Obituary

Died in the loving care of her daughter, Denisa, and son, Karol, on September 6th, 2012, at Ian Anderson House, in Oakville, Ontario. She lived a challenging but rich life, with strength, dignity, passion, and curiosity. It was she, as a mother, who taught us children the love of reading, the necessity for honesty, and the rewards of courage. It was she, as a friend,
who showed others the true meaning of "possibility", the right to live with dignity, happiness, and, of course, style. Edita was unique in so many ways,
with so many dimensions to her life, that her slight frame and distinctive accent would belie her even more distinctive ideas and passions. She gave of herself in ways that we are still discovering. In addition to her daughter and son, Edita leaves behind Jane Gardiner, her daughter-in-law and wife to
Karol, with grandsons Peter and Simon, of whom she was extremely proud. In Las Vegas, she leaves Jimmy Manone, husband to Denisa. Among her many, many friends, she leaves Stig Jakobsson, her close companion in her last years: they danced and travelled and rejoiced in each other's company. We would also like to thank all of Edita's friends, unnamed here for being so
numerous, for their care and support during her illness. Finally, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to every staff member of Ian Anderson
House, where she received unparalleled care and compassion.
"Still are thy voices singing, thy nightingales awake,
For Death he taketh all awake, but them he cannot take."
