IN LOVING MEMORY OF
E. Joan
Flippance
July 23, 1924 – January 8, 2024
In her sleep, Joan passed away peacefully at the Kensington, in her 100th year. Joan was an amazing woman who touched many hearts through her love of family and friends, through music, dancing, sport and her passion for an active social life. She was pre-deceased by John, her husband of 73 years. She leaves behind her sons Glen and wife Sonja, Brian and his wife Nancy; grandchildren Vaughn, Joshua, Mark and wife Yvonne, Ryan, Vanessa and husband Chris, Matthew and wife Carrie. Great grandchildren: Tyler, Paige, Travis, Skylar, Aidan, Olivia, Ben, Colin, Daniel, Jack, Lydia, Jake, William and Elise.
Joan was born in England, grew up on a farm in Wiltshire and after marrying John, they brought their family to Canada in 1952/1953. They eventually settled in Oakville, they both had careers at Avro and when the Avro Arrow was cancelled in 1959, they established "Flippance and Carr" (1960 -1985). The business still exists and continues the service and support levels they established. Over the years, she was an active member of the Oakville Club, appearing in many cabaret productions where she danced and sang, played tennis and badminton well into her 80's. Joan was a friend to many from her school mates, her sorority, the Oakville Club, the Church, their neighbors, through the business and at the Kensington. She always made sure people were welcomed, included and supported. She loved Oakville and over the years through the business and her connection with the community she and John had a wonderful and fulfilling life.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 17th at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West (one block east of Kerr Street), from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
