Obituary

With great sadness, the family of Dr. Douglas Leslie announces the passing of a loving and gentle husband, father, granddad, and brother. Douglas passed away peacefully with family by his side, his presence having left the world a better place.

A compassionate doctor and accomplished artist, collector, skier and sailor, Doug Leslie was a true scholar, an encyclopedia of knowledge, his conversations interesting and individualized with each of his 18 grandchildren and patients, alike. Doug's resilience, thirst for knowledge, quiet courage and his commitments to his family and to medicine were demonstrated throughout his life.

Educated in Scotland, Doug immigrated to Canada, opening a family practice from his Oakville residence in 1957, serving as Chief of Staff at The Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for several years. Until his retirement in 2005, the 'good doctor' continued to make house calls and to prioritize his patients' welfare over his own.

Cherishing memories are wife, Joan, his sons, stepsons and daughters, their spouses and eighteen wonderful grandchildren, all of whom enriched Granddad's life immeasurably with their own special talents, interests, stories and endearing personalities. Lovingly remembered by his sister, Moira (Scotland); Douglas was predeceased by his first wife and treasured mother of his children, Minnie, and by his brother, David.

Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, (one block east of Kerr, 905-844-2600), Oakville from 7-9 pm Monday. A Service to Celebrate Doug's Life will be held at 1:30 pm Tuesday March 27, 2012 at Knox Presbyterian Church, 89 Dunn Street, Oakville.

For those who wish, memorial contributions to the Parkinson's Society of Canada would be appreciated.
