It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas ("Doug") Laister, after a brief illness on September 4, 2009. Loving husband of 64 years to Mary (Coles). Doug will be sorely missed by his children, Leo & Teri (Oakville), Glenn & Laura (St. Catharines), Drew & Alice (Oakville), Mia & Cameron (Burlington), & Mark & Sylvia (Oakville). Devoted and much loved Grandfather of Melissa, Sarah, Carly, Jaimie, Alexandra, Ben and Ewan. Doug is also survived by his in-laws Beverley & Rheal Benard (St. Catharines), Robert & Maureen Coles (St. Catharines), Cliff Skeoch, Frank Feere, Bunny Coles and is predeceased by sisters-in-law Margorie Skeoch and Patricia Feere and brother-in-law, John ("Bud") Coles. Doug also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Doug was a graduate of the University of Toronto (Victoria College) and taught as a Teaching Master for many years at Lakeshore Teacher's College. An avid golfer, Doug will be missed and remembered by his many friends from the Burlington Golf & Country Club. Many thanks to Doctors Rouse and Arya, Yolanda Vanderlaan and the staff of Oakville-Trafalgar Hospital (2nd Floor) for their care and attention during his stay. The family extends its thanks to all those who have shown their love and support during this difficult time. Cremation has taken place. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
