Obituary

Doug Hamilton passed away at the age of 69 after a short and painful illness. He leaves behind his wife Michele, daughters Kaye (Adam), and Gwen (Andrew), grandson Beckett, and brother Jim.

Doug was a longtime employee of Goodyear Canada and downplayed his abilities, often joking about being a rubber lawyer and sharing lawyer jokes. He loved music and sang for many years with the choir at Walton Memorial United Church and was an enthusiastic participant in the spring concerts there, as well as singing with Walton's men's quartet "The Waltones". He enjoyed poetry and every year composed a poem for friend Jeff's birthday. He was an enthusiastic father and every year planned days ahead an April Fool's joke for Kaye and Gwen's benefit; when the girls were small he demonstrated an immense storytelling ability by telling them long, rambling stories out of his head, which were always neatly tied up at the end. He loved movies, especially classic movies, and son-in-law Adam furthered his education by making up memory sticks of great ones. Doug had a real soft spot for the family pets and enjoyed walking the various dogs which belonged to the family over the years, at nearby Bronte Creek Provincial Park. Before the pandemic hit, he indulged in travelling to warm climates, especially Antigua and Bermuda.

Michele wants to thank Dr. Jeff Cranford of St. Catharine's for all his kind and patient assistance;  and Jeff Hayes for encouraging Doug to get in touch with Dr. Jeff when he fell ill, and also for putting Doug in touch with old friends who came forward with loving and encouraging messages. The offers of help and support from friends near and far have been invaluable.

In lieu of flowers you may make a memorial donation in Doug's name to Walton Memorial United Church.

Because of COVID 19 restrictions, capacity at the memorial service is limited. For information and to RSVP, please email hamiltonrsvp2022@gmail.com by Saturday, April 9 at 12 noon. Masks are required in the church.
