With deep sadness, our family announces the peaceful passing of Douglas Clouse on June 20, 2026, in Oakville, Ontario, with his beloved wife Rosemary at his side. Doug was happily married and devoted to his “Rosie” for over 71 years, with family always being at the centre of his life. He was a loving father to his children and their partners: Patricia (Carmine) Ferrone, Pam (Ralph) Smith, and Sue (the late Mark) Jensen. He was a proud and adoring Grandpa to Kristen (Tim), Tommy, Ryan (Valentina), Taryn (Jonah), Eric (Julia), and Brent (Jaymee), and the delighted great-grandfather of six.
Doug was born in Toronto to the late Frank and Madeleine Clouse. His lifelong passion for cars led him to earn a diploma from the General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan. After starting his career in automotive sales, Doug joined C.E. Hastings & Co., where he earned his insurance adjuster license and worked his way up to become a partner and shareholder. Although he officially retired at the age of 60, Doug had plenty of energy and happily settled into what became a 20-year stint as a courtesy driver for Kennedy Ford, always enjoying his time with everyone he met along the way.
Giving back was in Doug’s nature, and he generously poured his time and energy into the Oakville community. He served as a board member at Hopedale Presbyterian Church and as a long-standing member of the Town of Oakville Water Air Rescue Force (TOWARF), reaching the rank of Rear Commander. For 49 years, Doug and Rosemary together brought light and joy to seniors through the Oakville Seniors’ Christmas Light Tour and Party. Doug was invited to join the Masonic Trafalgar Lodge in 1979, going on to serve as Worshipful Master in 1988 and Grand Junior Warden in 1996, and attaining the distinction of 32nd Degree Mason with the Scottish Rite. He joined the Oakville Shrine Club in 1999, where he took on many volunteer roles, one of the most meaningful being a volunteer driver to transport families to hospitals in Montreal and Erie, Pennsylvania.
The family treasures many happy memories of summers spent travelling across Canada, hauling a house trailer and camping with the Gallagher family. As empty nesters, Doug and Rosemary ventured abroad together, enjoying holidays in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Panama, and Alaska.
The family extends its heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Northridge Long Term Care. The kindness and dignity they showed Doug, and the comfort they provided to our family will always be remembered.
A funeral service will be held at Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home (64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville) on Saturday, June 27th, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. and a reception afterwards. Interment at Trafalgar Lawn Cemetery will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of Oakville, Milton and Halton, Shriners Hospital for Children Canada, or the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.
