Passed away in Oakville, Ontario on October 14th, 2010 in her 90th year, with her family at her side. Beloved wife of the late Alan F. D. (2007) for over 65 years. Loved mother of Judith Butler (Switzerland, formerly of St. Catharines), Alan James (Vancouver Island), Mary (Stephen Old, Ottawa) and the late Roger (Donna, Calgary). Devoted grandmother of Jason, Eilis, Sarah, Liam and Jamie Short; Kaitlin Butler Rees; Aislinn and Rebecca Old, and Aran Short, and great-grandmother of six. Dear friend of former son-in-law John Butler (St. Catharines) and companion of her dedicated caregiver, Mercy Corisay. Born and raised in Bowness (Calgary) on April 30th, 1921 of Irish parents, Dorothy was a proud resident of Old Oakville (Ontario) for the past 45 years. She was a faithful and active member of St. Jude's Church. After raising four children, Dorothy entered nursing training at the age of 50, and spent the next 20 years working in various capacities as a registered nurse. Dorothy was proud of her Irish heritage and was instrumental in organizing the family reunions in North America and Europe that continue to keep that heritage alive. Her wisdom and serenity will be missed by all who knew her. Funeral service will be held on Monday, October 18th at 1:00 p.m. at St Jude's Anglican Church, 160 William Street, Oakville L6J1C5, followed by interment in St. Jude's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Jude's Church Memorial Fund would be appreciated. "Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand."
