Obituary

Passed away peacefully at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital on August 16, 2022 at the age of 97. Dorothy Harley Eber was born in England and lived in Toronto and Montreal for most of her life. An internationally respected Canadian author, she devoted much of her life to preserving the history of the Inuit and the Canadian north. In 2000, she was invested with the Order of Canada in recognition of her numerous texts, articles, films and exhibitions, helping Canadians to understand the complexities and importance of Inuit culture.

Dorothy is predeceased by her husband George Eber and siblings Jocelyn Gunn, G. Peter and Rosalind Harley. She is survived by her nieces Dr. Anne Dorothy Harley of Claremont, California, Susan Gunn of Vancouver, BC, Judy Gunn Saunders (Chris), Uxbridge, ON, Enid Gunn Mackle (Jim) of Alliston, ON; her nephews Stuart Gunn (Patricia) of Oakville, ON, John Harley (Lisa) of Toronto, ON, Ian Gunn (Yvonne) of Dublin, Ireland, as well as her many cousins, grand-nieces and grand-nephews and their extended families. We will all miss her dearly.

Dorothy's memorial and interment will be held on October 27, 10:30am at Christ Church Anglican, in Woodbridge, Ontario.
